Software Description and Download

The Assessment Information Manager (AIM) software has been jointly developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Practice Program Office, and the Michigan Department of Community Health, Divison for Vital Records and Health Statistics. The Michigan version of the AIM software is being utilized throughout the state to assist in community health assessment activities and other health reporting needs. After installing the AIM system on a DOS based personal computer, AIM displays a pull down menu system that provides the user with access to three statistical reporting modules. The vital statistics module produces tables, graphs and maps of various indices of mortality and natality. The hospital discharge module generates tables, graphs and maps of inpatient hospitalization statistics. The other health statistics module outputs tables, graphs and maps of the incidence of communicable diseases and the utilization of long term care and inpatient hospital facilities. Selections for the time periods and geographic locations of interest to the user are available in each of the modules. AIM is an application of the CDC's, Epi Info, data base management and statistical reporting software and Epi Map, mapping software. To run the AIM software Epi Info 6.02 and Epi Map 2.0 or higher must be installed on the PC or local area network where AIM will be installed.

To install the AIM software on your PC you must download all of the software files for Epi Info, Epi Map and AIM from this page and follow the instructions which follow. It is recommended that you print this page for reference.

1. To download the files for Epi Info, Epi Map and AIM, click on the image of the application that you wish to download.

Epi Info
3 files, 1,300KB each
Epi Map
(4 files, 1,000-1,300KB each)
AIM
(7 files, 1,000KB each)

2. Installation of Epi Info 6.04. Create a temporary directory on the PC's hard drive using any directory name you wish. Save the files epi604_1.exe through epi604_3.exe into the temporary directory and then decompress the files by double clicking on them in the Windows File Manager or executing from DOS. When each of the three files have been extracted, run the install.exe file in the temporary directory and follow the on screen installation instructions. It is a good idea to make back up copies of the Epi Info software on disk before deleting the Epi Info installation program from the temporary directory.

3. Installation of Epi Map 2.01. When Epi Info 6.04 has been installed delete all the files in the temporary directory and save the Epi Map 2.01 disks (files em201_ 1.exe through 4) to the temporary directory. Extract the four Epi Map files in the temporary directory by double clicking on them from the Windows File Manager or by executing them from DOS. Run the install.exe file in the temporary directory and follow the on screen directions to install Epi Map 2.01. It is a good idea to back up the Epi Map installation program before deleting the Epi Map installation program from the temporary directory.

4. Installation of AIM. Delete all the files from the temporary directory, save the disks, AIM1.exe through AIM9.exe to the temporary directory. Extract the AIM software installation program by double clicking on each of the nine self extracting files from the Windows File Manager or by executing them from DOS. Run the install.exe file from the temporary directory and follow the on screen instructions to install the AIM software. It is a good idea to make a copy of the AIM software installation program before deleting all the files in the temporary directory and the directory itself.
