Gestational age based on the clinician’s estimate. The reporting of procedures used
conforms to national recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC). In abortions where more than one procedure
was performed, the principal procedure was determined according to the
following hierarchy: hysterectomy/hysterotomy, sharp curettage (D&C),
saline injection or prostaglandin, dilation and evacuation, medical (non-surgical),
suction curettage and other procedures.
