$5.16 Million Dollars in Dental Health Grants Awarded

Michigan Department of Community Health Director James K. Haveman, Jr., today announced that $5.16 million in dental health funding for Medicaid beneficiaries has been awarded.

"These grants will improve access to quality dental care for Medicaid beneficiaries throughout the state," said Governor Engler. "An additional 90,000 Medicaid beneficiaries will receive oral health services thanks to this important funding."

"Access to dental services has been a concern for Medicaid beneficiaries and these grants will improve access to quality dental care throughout the state," said Haveman. "It will serve a vital need in communities to ensure access to quality dental care for Medicaid beneficiaries."

The Michigan Department of Community Health FY2000 budget included funding to increase Medicaid dental capacity to help alleviate the dental access problems that Medicaid beneficiaries are experiencing.

Grants were awarded to various entities, such as local public health departments, federally-qualified health centers (FQHC), hospitals, dental schools and private dental enterprises. The grants will be used for developmental costs, infrastructure, and enhanced technology and are directly related to expanding the capacity of providers to service more Medicaid beneficiaries.
