Michigan Office of Services to the Aging Encourages Seniors and Caregivers to be Prepared for Y2K
Michigan Office of Services to the Aging Director, Lynn Alexander, today reminded seniors and those who serve as caregivers to senior citizens to prepare for Year 2000 as they would prepare for any major winter storm.
"The Michigan State Police tell us they expect very few, if any serious interruptions of electric power, telephone, fuel, food or water," said Alexander. "However, in Michigan seniors should always be prepared for a major winter storm. Ice storms could interrupt electric power and make a drive to the grocery store hazardous for hours or days at a time. Simple common sense preparations can help seniors and their caregivers in any emergency situation."
"It is also crucial for senior citizens to be aware of fraud and protect themselves from scams," said Alexander. "Be skeptical if someone tries to sell you a product, service or investment that is ‘Y2K safe' or sell you Y2K insurance. Never give out your bank account, Social Security or credit card number to an unsolicited caller."
