Haveman Announces Hurst Appointed to National American Heart Association Committee


Michigan Department of Community Health Director, James K. Haveman, Jr., today congratulated Rochelle Hurst, Manager of Cardiovascular Health and Nutrition at the Department of Community Health for her selection to serve on the Women & Minorities Leadership Committee, a national committee of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The mission of the AHA is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Responsibilities for the Women & Minorities Leadership Committee include making recommendations for program development that would address heart disease and stroke health issues related to women and minorities around the country, as well as strategies to encourage wider minority participation in AHA programs and activities.

"It’s easy to see why the American Heart Association chose Rochelle for this honor," said Haveman. "Her dedication and commitment to implementing services across the state to decrease heart disease and stroke make her an outstanding choice to serve on this important leadership committee."

Hurst has worked for the for the Department of Community Health for the past 11 years in a variety of maternal/child health and chronic disease programs. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree in Health Education with a specialty in Public Health from Central Michigan University.
