Department of Community Health Announces Davis-Satterla New HIV/AIDS-STD Division Director


Michigan Department of Community Health Director James K. Haveman, Jr., today announced that Loretta Davis-Satterla will serve as the Department’s new HIV/AIDS-Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Division Director.

"I am pleased to announce that Loretta Davis-Satterla will be joining the Department," said Haveman. "Her 14 years of combined experience in HIV/AIDS prevention, education, treatment and care programming make her an outstanding choice for this important position. In her new position, Loretta will aggressively continue our efforts against HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases."

Davis-Satterla, of Royal Oak, currently serves as HIV/AIDS Programs Administrator for the City of Detroit Health Department. In 1997 she was awarded the Michigan Women and AIDS Committee Leadership Award, the Statewide HIV/AIDS Care Council Volunteer Service Award and the City of Detroit "Spirit of Detroit" Award.

In 1992, she received the Outstanding and Innovative Leader in the field of HIV/AIDS Education from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Davis-Satterla earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University.

She serves as a Michigan AIDS Fund Trustee, Chairperson of the Michigan Women and AIDS Committee and as a member of the Women’s Committee of the United Negro College Fund.

Davis-Satterla will join the Department on July 12, 1999.
