Haveman to Testify on MIChild Before the U.S. House of Representatives Commerce Committee Friday in D.C.

Michigan Department of Community Health Director James K. Haveman, Jr., will testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Commerce, Subcommittee on Health and Environment, on Friday, September 18, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C.

Haveman will be providing a progress report to the members of the subcommittee on MIChild, the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

Governor John Engler kicked off the statewide enrollment in the MIChild program, an affordable health insurance program for the children of Michigan's working families, in August. To date, over 18,000 people have called for information on the program.

Michigan has partnered with public, private and non-profit organizations to market the MIChild program and coordinate outreach activities. These outreach efforts involve schools, hospitals, faith-based organizations, businesses, community groups and health and human services divisions of local government.

Statewide television and radio advertising has also begun on the comprehensive, child-focused benefits package.
