Engler Announces Immunization Rate at 84.5% in Ingham, Eaton, Barry, Clinton and Gratiot Counties
Governor John Engler today praised Ingham, Eaton, Barry, Clinton and Gratiot counties for their childhood immunization rates. The results of a Michigan Department of Community Health survey show that immunization levels for 19 to 35-month-old children in these surveyed counties combined are now 84.5%. Immunization rates for Ingham county alone are 87.9 percent.
Last year, Michigan made the most dramatic increase of any state in the immunization level for two-year-olds, up 15 percentage points since 1994.
"This is outstanding news in our efforts to protect children from dangerous diseases. I am proud to recognize the achievements of these local health departments and many other partners in these counties for their efforts to vaccinate children in their communities," said Engler. "Their hard work is making a difference in the lives of our children."
"With the continued grassroots efforts of the individuals in these counties, we've sets our sights on achieving and maintaining a goal of full immunization protection for 100 percent of our youngest children," said Michigan Department of Community Health Director James K. Haveman, Jr.
