Women's Mental Health Seminar to be held in Grand Rapids
The Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards will host a Women's Mental Health Seminar on Tuesday, May 6, 1997 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The seminar will be held at the State Office Building, in the Huron and Michigan Rooms, 350 Ottawa N.W., in Grand Rapids.
"This year we launched Every Woman...Michigan's Year of Women's Health, an aggressive public information and media campaign focusing on women's health issues. The Women's Mental Health Seminar is an important part of the Every Woman Campaign to raise awareness on mental health issues," said Michigan Department of Community Health Director James K. Haveman, Jr.
Edith McCreary, Prevention Coordinator of the Family Outreach Center, will discuss "Women and Parenting Issues."
Sherry Meyers, of Grand Rapids, will discuss the "Parent/Consumer Perspective."
Nancy Thompson, Substance Abuse Specialist with Harbinger ACT, will discuss "Women Issues, Mental Illness and Substance Abuse."
Colleen Jasper, Director of the Office of Consumer Relations at the Michigan Department of Community Health, will discuss "Recovery from Mental Illness--A Woman's Viewpoint."
There is no charge to attend the seminar and it is open to the public, but reservation space is limited. If you would like to attend the seminar, please call the Department of Community Health at (517) 241-1165.
Seminars will also take place in Romulus on May 2 and in Lansing on May 13.
