Viele Named MDCH Deputy for Budget & Finance
David C. Viele has been appointed Deputy for Budget and Finance of the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH). The appointment was announced today by MDCH Director James K. Haveman, Jr.
"David will manage all budget and finance components of the department," Haveman says. "He will also oversee management information systems and support services. His expertise in both budget and finance, coupled with his extensive experience in state government, will help the department be more effective with public health care dollars."
In his new role, Viele will lead the development and implementation of budget and financial plans for MDCH. He will provide financial leadership for the entire department, including oversight of budget and finance in the Community Public Health Agency, the Medical Services Administration, Behavioral Health, and the Office of Drug Control Policy.
Viele, 44, of Midland, began his career at the Michigan Department of Corrections (DOC) as a fiscal analyst in 1976. He was a business administrator at three corrections facilities before becoming Assistant Deputy Director for Operations in 1986. Since 1991, he has been the administrator of the DOC Office of Fiscal Management, with responsibility for budget, finance, procurement, physical plant, and records.
Viele earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at Michigan State University in 1975. He begins his MDCH role on August 26.
