Birth, Death, Marriage, and Divorce Records

Birth Record Applications

  • Application for a Birth Record - Records are available since 1867. Birth records are restricted in Michigan and only a person named on the record or who is a legal guardian or representative of an individual named on the record may request a copy.

  • Senior Citizen - A person who is 65 or older applying for a certified copy of his or her own birth record is charged a reduced fee.

  • Authentication - Authenticated (exemplified or containing an apostile) records are typically required by foreign governments for adoption, work visas, or establishing residency. Not needed for foreign travel.

  • Administrative Use Copy -For an agency that must have independent access to birth record information to perform a required function. Such copies can be used only for the specific purpose for which the record is requested.
Death Record Applications

  • Application for a Death Record - Records are available since 1867. Any individual may request a copy.

  • Authentication - Authenticated (exemplified or containing an apostile) records are typically required by foreign governments for adoption, work visas, or establishing residency.

Marriage Record Applications

  • Application for a Marriage Record - Records are available since 1867. Any individual may request a copy.

  • Authentication - Authenticated (exemplified or containing an apostile) records are typically required by foreign governments for adoption, work visas, or establishing residency.

Divorce Record Applications

  • Application for a Divorce Record - Records are available since 1897. Any individual may request a copy.

  • Authentication - Authenticated (exemplified or containing an apostile) records are typically required by foreign governments for adoption, work visas, or establishing residency.
